Dear Parents and Carers,
This Sunday, 11 May, marks a significant occasion as we come together to celebrate Mother’s Day. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the mothers and mother figures within the St Paul’s community a very happy and heartfelt Mother’s Day.
As a Catholic school, we also take a moment on Mother’s Day to remember Mary, the mother of Jesus. She is a role model for all mothers, showing unwavering love and support for her son, Jesus, and demonstrating deep faith and trust in our loving God. Mary’s example continues to inspire the nurturing, strength, and spiritual guidance that so many mothers provide.
To honour this special day, we are hosting a Mother’s Day High Tea in our school hall. Our guests will enjoy delicious pastries and scones, along with a hot cup of tea or coffee, kindly provided by Albion Park Cakes. We’re also excited to offer a selection of lucky door prizes, generously donated by businesses in our wider community (see below). A special thank you goes to Enchanted Florists for their beautiful floral table decorations and to Mrs Flora Curcio-Borg (St Joseph's Teacher) and the St Joseph’s students who helped with the event setup.
Our school choir will be performing a song for our mother, a musical tribute to the important role they play in the lives of their children. Following the High Tea, mothers will be invited to visit their child’s classroom to spend some special time together.
An event of this size requires a great deal of planning and teamwork. I would like to sincerely thank our SSSO Kristie Bicknell for her organisation to make this a memorable occasion. Special thanks also to our SSOs Mel Knight, Christine Calleja, Lauren Wilson, and Dianne Allison for setting up the hall, and to Bethany Nunes for her support with social media and promotional materials.
Wishing you all a wonderful Mother’s Day filled with love, and appreciation.
Warm regards,
Angela Pecnik
Principal
St Paul's Uniform Policy
As we begin the school term, please be reminded of the uniform expectations of students. We appreciate your support in ensuring students are wearing the required uniform, as outlined in our St Paul's Uniform Policy.
All stdents are expected to be in full winter uniform by Week 3 (Monday 12 May).
Dear Parents and Carers,
At St Paul's we are striving for our students to achieve 90-100 % attendance. We understand that there are times when students are collected early due to medical appointments.
It is very difficult to contact taff and students during assembly time on a Wednesday afternoon between 2.30pm and 3pm. We are seeking your support and limiting the collection of students during assembly.
Our school day finishes at 3.15pm. If you need to collect your child early please email or phone the school by 1.30pm so that this information can be printed and placed in the class tubs. Learning is a priority and we are trying to reduce the number of phone calls made to classrooms as this interrupts the teachers and other students in the class.
We value your feedback and want to hear about your experiences with our school! We're inviting you to participate in the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) parent survey. Your honest opinions will help us understand what we're doing well and where we can improve to make our school even better for your child.
The survey is anonymous and takes just a few minutes to complete. Please click on the link below to share your thoughts: https://tellthemfromme.com/survey/splash/8m4gs
SEMESTER ONE REPORTS
Semester One reports will be released on the Parent Compass Portal on
Friday 27 June.
The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) states that students in Year One-Six receive grades ranging from A-E. Kindergarten receive a three point scale of- Thorough, sound and basic.
The A to E grade scale summarises the standard (or quality) of achievement associated with each grade. The scale describes:
- the depth of knowledge and understanding and
- the range of skills that students working at that standard typically show.
Grades are given for individual achievement. Students will get the grade that best matches the standard of their achievement. Teachers should consider all evidence gathered and should not be limited to a set number of children allocated to each grade within their class or school.
Grades are one aspect of school reporting to parents. Other important tools include:
- teacher comments
- parent-teacher conversations and
- information about student effort and application.

EASTER
The key event of the story of Jesus is the Resurrection - Easter. The empty tomb is an important symbol in each Gospel’s Resurrection account. All four Gospels report the women visiting the empty tomb. They are the first among the faithful to experience the resurrection and to proclaim it.
Thank you to Year 2 who led us in an Easter Liturgy today to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
PROJECT COMPASSION
A huge thank you to the school community for raising over $970 towards Project Compassion. These funds were a result of our Pancake Day and the collection of Project Compassion boxes from students.
As individuals we can help others, but when we come together through Project Compassion, our good becomes great. Our combined kindness grows. And when we unite with each other – and with people living in poverty – we can create BIG, lasting change.
Thank you all as we United Against Poverty!

Senior Leader's Report
Hi I’m Logan and I’m Sienna and we are your senior Leaders signing in for the fortnightly report.
First off, we are in term 2, that means we are almost half way through the year!
Wow, time really does fly!
During the holiday, Logan went to the ANZAC Day dawn service where he learnt about the harsh conditions of World War 2. Logan with our Principal Miss Pecnik was fortunate to lay a bunch of flowers on the wall of remembrance. All the different Army corps were there including military, army and the navy.
Today we went to the Mother’s Day stall to purchase gifts for mothers and carers. From mugs to photo frames and even head massagers. Students could buy a gift for $5 each.
Some students in years 5 and 6 were chosen to compete in an extra curriculum, Mathematics activity called Maths Olympiad. Today we had our first Assessment.
On Tuesday and Wednesday several students received Confirmation. Students choose a saint, the gift they would like to receive and how that gift would help them. Leading up to confirmation, students participated in Reconciliation. We are very proud of all the students who completed their Sacrament of Confirmation!
Road safety week is next week. During road safety week we learn about the safety of crossing the road and driving in a car. Some examples are sitting straight on the seat and always wearing your seatbelt.
Don’t forget it’s full winter next week!
These are the senior leaders signing out for the week!
Sienna and Logan!
Staff Development Day - Monday 28 April 2025
Our teachers recently participated in a staff development day focused on the newly launched Faith, Learning and Wellbeing Framework (2025) from the Catholic Education Office, Diocese of Wollongong.
'The Faith, Learning and Wellbeing Framework' supports the creation of communities of educational excellence where every student develops resilience, confidence, and self-efficacy." This framework aligns with our Annual Improvement Goal and outlines high-impact teaching and wellbeing strategies. These strategies will be explored further in ongoing professional development and implemented in classrooms to support student growth and achievement.

Walk Safely to School Day - Friday 16 May 2025
WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 16 MAY 2025
Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking!
Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. Although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.
You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:
Walking with them the whole way to school
If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop
If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.
Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic. Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 16 MAY 2025!
At St Paul’s we will be continuing our tradition of meeting at Albion Park Swimming Pool at 8:30am on Friday 16th May 2025. Staff will be in high visibility vests to walk with the students to school. Parents and carers are welcome to join. We hope to see you there!
Communicating with the School After a Hospital/Emergency Department Visit or Significant Injury
Communicating with the School After a Hospital/ Emergency Department Visit or Significant Injury
If your child visits an Illawarra – Shoalhaven Emergency Department you may receive an “Emergency Department Post Card”. This card encourages parents / carers to contact the school. This is part of Health and Education’s ongoing commitment to the well-being and safety of students. Even if you haven’t received a Post Card you must let a school know about the visit. It is also important to communicate with the school after any significant injury to ensure your child is safe at school.
Contacting the school enables you and the student to be involved in developing any plan needed. If you can, before leaving the hospital ask for a written note or medical certificate outlining any necessary information for your child's teacher/s and school staff.
Necessary information the school requires
- Brief Description: What happened and when?
- Current Health Status: How the student is feeling, and any immediate health concerns.
- Medical Advice/ Necessary Information: Any specific recommendations or restrictions. Examples could include:
- Does the child need support carrying items?
- Can they participate in sport?
- Do they need alternate supervision to the playground?
- Can the child write?
- If medications are required to be given at school, please provide a letter outlining the details (e.g. medicine type, dosage, times etc) which is signed by your treating doctor. You will need to complete an authority to dispense medication form.
- Length of time for any adjustments or support: the school will need a rough indication of how long the injury will
- Follow-up: Any referrals made by the hospital or recommendations for follow-up appointments e.g. GP or psychologist.
- Return to School: A timeline of your child's expected return to school. In most cases your child will be able to return to school the following day, however parents should consult with the school first, to ensure that the school is aware of the current health concerns and can ensure the safety of your child.
The school, in consultation with families, can put in place adjustments to support children and young people's wellbeing, physical health and academic learning. Working with the schools on this will help maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students.
St Paul’s is a large site with many areas inaccessible for those requiring mobility support. As a result, additional personnel may be required to support the safe movement of students on the site. The school may require some time to organise personnel in this case.
Please contact the school as early as you can to help us organise any communication among staff regarding the temporary needs of your child after an injury.
Communicating with the school
- Phone or visit the school's main office and ask to speak to the Assistant Principal or a Leadership team member about returning to school after a student is discharged from the hospital or after a significant injury
- The school may discuss your child's needs with you over the phone or if necessary, invite you to a meeting at the school.
- Provide the school with documents provided by the hospital or fracture clinics such as written notes, a discharge summary or a medical certificate outlining the necessary information for your child
Please be assured that all information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and sensitivity.
