NAIDOC Week - The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy - Wednesday 2 July
“NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. Wherever you live, taking part in NAIDOC Week is a great way to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.” (https://www.naidoc.org.au/)
We will celebrate NAIDOC Week at St Paul’s on Wednesday 2 July.
Mufti day: Students are invited to wear the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags or an Aboriginal art shirt on Wednesday 2 July.
Class activities: Students will engage in NAIDOC week activities in the classroom.
Assembly: We will have a whole school assembly and liturgy at 1pm in the hall. When the assembly finishes there will be a special afternoon tea in the hall for families of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students leading the assembly. Awards will be presented as usual after the Assembly.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students have been working with Aunty Josephine Ball and Samuel Mongta, the St Paul's and St Joseph's Aboriginal Education Assistants, to prepare a number of dances for the assembly. These include the Rainbow Serpent dance, Clearing dance, Show off dance, Pippy dance and Lyrebird dance.
